Circle slots

  1. Define the parameters

slot_size: 60mm thickness: 7mm

  1. Create a sketch on Z Plan Face the RIGHT plane

  2. Create a circle tangent to the X and Z axes

Create a line starting at any point of the X axis line (ZY0) and then, create the 2nd point at the XYZ 0. The 3rd point should be anywhere at the Z axis line (XY0)

Create a circle "2-Tangent Circle". The first tangent should be the X line and then Y for the second tangent.

Set the circle size to "(slot_size + thickness) / 2" // this will ensure the slot borders dont touch the base. and yes, it should be divided by 2 as we are defining the circle RADIUS

And then place the circle at the LEFT-UP side (-X +Y)

Maybe you need to fix the 1st circle DIAMETER to "slot_size + thickness" after changing the parameters.

  1. Create the border Modify > Offset set distance to "- thickness"
  • Curves: "select the circle border"
  • Chain Selection: "true" *
  • Distance: "- thickness"
  • Two Sides: false *
  • Flip: false *
  • Match Topology: false *

yes, we are creating a negative border

Finish the sketch.

  1. Extrude the first circle Select the first circle and then extrude: all default. distance should be "thickness" Finish the extrusion

  2. First row of circles Create > Pattern > Rectangular Pattern

  • Object type: "Bodies"
  • Axes: "Select the Z axis"
  • Distribution: "Spacing"
  • Suppression: "True
  • Axis 1:
    • Quantity: 5
    • Distance: slot_size
    • Direction: One Direction
  • Axis 2:
    • Quantity: 1
    • Distance: 0.00mm
    • Direction: One Direction

Finish the pattern

  1. Second circle Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4. But, the size of the second circle should be "slot_size + thickness"

  2. Positioning the 2nd circle

In the 2nd circle: select the OUTER border (with slot_size + thickness) and then click on the 1st extruded circle INNER border (the slot_size) again: select the OUTER border (with slot_size + thickness) and then click on the 2nd extruded circle of the 1st column INNER border (the slot_size) OLD::: Now at the 2nd circle sketch, click on the inner circle (with slot_size diameter) and then click on the first extruded circle OUTER (the slot_size + thickness) click again on the inner circle and then click on the SECOND extruded circle (EXTERNAL BORDER) of the first row at the same spot as the previous: circle OUTER (the slot_size + thickness) of the 2nd extruded circle.

It should leave the three borders connected on each others inner circles.

Finish the sketch

  1. Second row of circles Repeat steps 5 and 6. But, instead of 5 create 4 circles on the pattern.

  2. Third circle Repeat steps 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. But of course, adjusting the positioning accordingly.

Support

Now we gotta do the support to fix it to the wall.

  1. Support sketch Switch to the FRONT face Then create a sketch at the facing plan (transversal to the first row of circles)

Inside the sketch, switch to the RIGHT plane

You should see the circles in the same way we were projecting it.

Switch to the BACK plane

Start a "2-Point Rectangle" at X=0 Y=0 Z=0

set the X size to "thickness"

set the Y size to "(slot_size * 5 + thickness) + ((slot_size + thickness) / 2)" this will give the base half of a circle as margin.

Remove the coincident restrictions from the 2-Point Rectangle original point. To do it, click on the rectangle and find the two constraints at the corner.

Move the rectangle to Y Distance = "slot_size/4"

Finish the sketch

  1. Base extrusion Extrude the base rectangle:
  • Start: "Profile Plane"*
  • Direction: "Two Sides"
  • Side 1:
    • Extent Type: "Distance" *
    • Distance: "thickness"
    • Taper Angle: "0.0 deg" *
  • Side 2:
    • Extent Type: "Distance" *
    • Distance: "thickness"
    • Taper Angle: "0.0 deg" *
  1. Grouping 1st row and base Now, select all of the 5 rows of the 1st column and select the base objects altogether

Modify > Combine

  • Target Body: "Select the Base"
  • Tool Bodies: "Select the col1 rows"
  • Operation: "Join"
  • New Component: "True" *
  • Keep Tools: "False" *
  1. Closing the Circle x Base gaps

Select the 4 faces at the base column that are between the circles and the base itself. (circles 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 4+5)

Modify > Press Pull:

  • Faces: "Select as above"
  • Distance: "12mm" // you should check it by itself due to the size of the circles. But keep in mind that it is ok if a very small hole appears, it ill be closed automatically.
